Tom Wirth Jr. Takes 2013 Snowbird Nationals!
Tom Jr. and his team have battled bad luck all season. It always seemed like everything was ready and then when he and his team arrived at the track , something would come up ending Tom's competition for the day. They have worked very hard to overcome these issues.
Friday morning confidence was high and testing should be a good experience. The first pass was a 3.89 second pass. Not bad for a fresh mill and a conservative tune-up but things just seemed to get worse all day. Saturday during qualifying, Tom managed a 3.86 even though the data showed ignition issues and that put him in the #4 qualifying spot.
Sunday eliminations brought a turn in Tom's luck. The first round was a bye and a chance to check out the new Mag box and Six Shooter installed Saturday night. It looked like maybe that had done it but tire shake meant we had only a partial run to look at.
The second round matched Tom with Matt Gilmore. Matt suffered a broken starter and his car wouldn't start. Wow! Another chance to see if the ignition would hold up. The Hemi was still not happy...
The third round paired Tom with Craig (Slim) Andrews. As luck would have it, Slim plugged a port nozzle during his 2nd round pass in the process of taking out the #1 qualifier and couldn't make the call. Another bye and another chance to flush out the gremlins...
The final would feature what promised to be a fantastic matchup between the always tough veteran racer and tree killer, Melissa Hutson. Before the pass, I was talking with Slim and wondered aloud if we had any luck left. He said, "you don't know how much luck she has left". That turned out to be prophetic.
Both drivers were focused on what they had to do. Tom dropped the hammer first delivering a stellar .021 light and the car finally ran well laying down a 3.780 to Melissa's 3.769 pass with and very respectable .041 light. The holeshot win going to Wirth with a margin of victory of just .009 seconds! Congrats Tom on your 2013 Snowbird Nationals win!
Last Heads up Madness of 2013 slated for September 21st at Bradenton Motorsports Park will be contested at the ODRC Oct 27-29.
Track ownership has informed us that the track has been freshly paved and they don't feel comfortable yet that the fresh track can provide enough traction for our cars. However, for anyone wanting to test that evening, they will provide a free tech card along with the normal test entry fee. Save your rain-check tickets from the rain out August 24th as they will be applied to the entry fee for the Outlaw race. Hope to see everyone there! Cooler weather is finally approaching!

Nobody really likes to race in the heat but everybody is itching to get back to the track. Matt Gilmore has dominated the first 3 races due to some damn good passes but he may have benefitted a little from a lack of the usual competition. (Don't tell him I said that!)
Tommy Wirth Jr. has had troubles with his mill and says that he now has that solved. He should be back in the 3's. Melissa Hutson has been absent in the early season because of other commitments. Bob Bridges found some elusive performance at the last race and promises to be a player. The always consistent and competitive Ron Logan was finally back at the last race with a new transmission. Was it any surprise Ron faced Matt in the finals? Craig 'Slim' Andrews has his car turned in the right direction promising to be a contender. Matt 'Lil Pup' Wirth broke some parts last outing but should be back for Saturday's event.
So bring your coolers, shade and sweat rags and let's go racing! I cant wait and I know the guys can't either. Let's kick some ass! We'll see you there Saturday!
Gilmore Uses NHL Playoffs as inspiration and completes the HAT TRICK!
The May Heads Up Madness saw the return of past champion Ron Logan and his TnA racing team. After the first round of qualifying and a problem with an oil leak by Gilmore, he sat atop the qualifying list with a 4.08. Gilmore made a statement in the the second round of qualifying by clicking off a 4.00 @181 and taking the top spot. Bob Bridges claimed a seat at the big boy table by clicking off a new best of 4.10 sec.
Eliminations provided some really good racing but almost predictably, Logan and Gilmore were to meet in the final. Gilmore pulled off a hole-shot to take the win with a 4.13 over Logan's quicker but losing 4.08. Congratulations on your 3rd straight win Matt!

Gilmore Repeats with win at April HUM
Matt Gilmore is one of the few regular competitors in 2013 Open Outlaw season that hasn't suffered mechanical failure or isn't trying to get a handle on a new combination. He rides this advantage to a second straight win and a huge point lead. Matt should see more competition in round 3 from some of our returning veterans. We'll see if anyone can knock the "Animal" off the pedestal! C'mon out and join the excitement!

Gilmore returns to Winners Circle in the first 2013 Heads Up Madness event.
Matt Gilmore struggled somewhat to find the performance at the Snowbirds but was back on track at the Feb 16th event. With a fresh blower and some tune-up changes, Matt laid down a 3.99 second pass to take the top qualifier spot in the field of 8 cars.
Breakage sidelined Tom Wirth Jr, Bob Bridges and Matt Wirth. Gilmore met Craig (Slim) Andrews in the final and clicked off a blistering 3.91 pass to take the win over Andrews who had suffered from tire shake all weekend. Congratulations to Matt and crew.
